On July 23, a session of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) began in Ramat Gan, Israel. 32 General Council members from 16 Eastern European, post-Soviet, Asian and Pacific countries are participating in the meeting.

The General Council will discuss a number of fundamental questions key to the continuing work of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.

In particular, the Congress is re-electing its leaders. The General Council members recommended that the highest executive body of the Congress, the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA), whose work beings on July 24, accepts the resignation of EAJC President Julius Meinl, which he requested in a letter, and thank him for three years of work. The General Council also recommended that the EGA fire Matvey Gutman from the post of Congress Treasurer for failing to fulfill his official duties over the last two years.

A new candidate for EAJC President was formally introduced to the General Council: the First EAJC Vice President, known businessman and philanthropist Mikhail Mirilashvili. The EAJC GC univocally approved of him assuming the position of Acting President and recommended him to the EGA for assuming the post full-time.

Mikhail Mirilashvili also introduced a candidate for the post of Treasurer: Meni Bushuev. The General Council decided to recommend Meni Bushuev for the post of Treasurer to the EGA.

The General Council also discussed the upcoming reorganization of the Congress. The discussion was long and lively.

The GC also accepted the International Youth Zionist Movement Shakhar as an associated member of the Congress and evaluated the requested of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Sri Lanka to join the Congress. The Federation was accepted into the EAJC as an observer, with the GC also deciding to organize a visit of Congress representatives to Sri Lanka in order to evaluate further involvement.
